Positano Tips & FAQ

It’s beautiful, dramatic, and vertical — a few things worth knowing before you get there.

What daily life feels like

Expect stairs

Much of Positano is built into the cliff. Even short routes can involve steep slopes or long staircases.

Pack lighter than usual

Smaller luggage is easier through airports, transfers, hotel entrances and pedestrian areas. Ask your hotel about porter service.

Bring practical shoes

Comfortable, secure footwear matters on stone streets and stairs. Save delicate shoes for the events themselves.

Plan for July heat

Choose light, breathable fabrics such as linen and cotton for the July heat. Carry water, use sun protection and allow extra time rather than rushing uphill.

Getting around

Walk when practical

Positano is compact, but routes are not always direct. Check elevation and stair access, not just distance, before setting out.

Use pre-arranged transportation

Don’t count on Uber or Lyft in Positano. Taxis and private cars can also be limited during busy summer periods, so pre-arrange transportation when timing matters.

Allow extra time for public transportation

Buses and ferries are useful for getting around the coast, but schedules are not always reliable. Summer traffic, crowds, weather, and sea conditions can all cause delays, so leave plenty of extra time.

Do not plan around a rental car

Narrow roads, heavy traffic, and limited parking make driving more stressful than helpful for most guests staying in Positano.

Small details worth knowing

Reservations

Popular restaurants and beach clubs fill early in summer. Reserve anything important rather than assuming walk-in availability.

Payments

Cards are widely useful, but keep some euros available for small purchases, tips and situations where cash is simpler.

Power

Italy uses 230V power and European-style outlets. Bring the correct plug adapter and confirm that personal devices support the voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the trip, Positano, and the wedding week. We’ll continue updating this section as details are finalized.

Planning the trip

When should I arrive?

Our first wedding event is the Welcome Party on Tuesday, July 6. Plan your travel so you’re in Positano and settled in before then.

For the easiest arrival, we recommend getting to Positano by Monday, July 5, which gives you some cushion for travel delays and time to check in and settle in before the celebration begins.

Which airport should I use?

Naples International Airport (NAP) is our recommended airport and offers the easiest route to Positano. Rome (FCO) is also an option if it works better for your travel plans.

How should I get from Naples to Positano?

A private car from Naples to Positano is the simplest option. We’ve listed a few recommended transfer companies on the Travel + Stay page.

Should I rent a car?

No. Positano has narrow roads, heavy summer traffic, and limited parking. A private transfer is much easier.

Where should I stay?

Stay wherever works best for you. We’ve put together a list of recommended hotels and Airbnbs on the Travel + Stay page, including walking distance from Villa Oliviero.

What should I book now?

You can start booking flights, accommodations, and transfers whenever you’re ready. Check the Travel + Stay page for our current recommendations.

Being in Positano

How much walking should I expect?

Quite a bit. Positano is steep, and even short distances can involve hills or stairs. Comfortable shoes are a good idea.

What should I pack for the town itself?

Lightweight clothes, comfortable shoes, sun protection, and a plug adapter. Packing lighter than usual will also make getting around easier.

Will I need an outlet adapter?

Yes. Italy uses 230V power and European-style outlets. Bring a European or universal plug adapter and make sure any hair or styling tools are compatible with 230V.

What currency is used, and what is the exchange rate?

Italy uses the euro (€). Exchange rates change daily, so check the current rate before you travel. Cards are widely accepted, but having some euros on hand is helpful.

Can I rely on public transportation?

Buses and ferries are useful for getting around the coast, but schedules can be limited, crowded, or affected by traffic and weather. Give yourself plenty of extra time or consider a private transfer.

The wedding week

When is the wedding?

The ceremony is Thursday, July 8, 2027 at 4:00 PM at San Pietro Chapel, followed by the reception at Villa Oliviero.

Will every event apply to every guest?

The Itinerary page shows the full schedule. If an event is limited to a specific group, we’ll make that clear.

What is the dress code?

Cocktail Attire: Think elevated summer style with an Italian coastal feel. Midi or cocktail dresses, elegant jumpsuits, and dressy separates are perfect for women; lightweight suits, dress pants, and blazers are ideal for men. We encourage light fabrics and sophisticated summer colors.

Will transportation be provided for the wedding?

Wedding-day transportation details are still being finalized. We’ll update the Itinerary page once they’re confirmed.

Is this the Formal RSVP?

The Formal RSVP is coming soon. Once available, guests will be able to submit their RSVP directly through the dedicated Formal RSVP page on the website. We’ll let you know when it’s ready.
